Factory Berlin
Factory Berlin is a campus in Berlin that brings new startups together with mature high tech companies.
It houses renowned startup companies including 6Wunderkinder, Soundcloud, Twitter, UBER and Zendesk, as well as the Mozilla Foundation. These cooperate as business incubators for other entrepreneurs and new startups, offering them workspace, networking, creative input, consulting services (legal, business plans, financing, pitching etc.) and other support at the Factory campus for free. Factory Berlin calls this model "organic accelerator", as opposed to seed accelerators, which usually ask for shares in participating companies.
In February 2015, the Factory was the location of the first Startup Europe Summit.
==Introduction==
In April 2012, Techcrunch broke the news that Angel Investors JMES were partnering with S&P Real Estate to develop a tech-hub called Factory - an office building developed on the site of the former Oswald Brauerei in Berlin’s central Mitte. “''We are creating a campus where startups can learn from each other and use collective knowledge to overcome early stage hurdles'',” said Simon Schaefer, founder.〔
In November 2012, Google pledged €1 million ($1.27M) over three years to Factory through its Google for Entrepreneurs program. When it officially opened on June 11, 2014, it had 16.000 sqm and residents such as Soundcloud, 6Wunderkinder (developers of Wunderlist), Zendesk, Twitter and Mozilla.
Factory Berlin's 2014 was showcased in an animated infographic, ''Year 2014 in Review''. Highlights include the 83 million euros raised by Factory startups, the 505+ press articles written about Factory (from 12 different countries) and the 102 events held on campus. The infographic also noted the number of different nationalities (33) and the proportion of women working on campus (39%).
